{"id":1370,"date":"2017-11-21T10:00:24","date_gmt":"2017-11-21T09:00:24","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/dragonsflamedesigns.co.uk\/knit\/?p=1370"},"modified":"2017-12-16T13:08:55","modified_gmt":"2017-12-16T12:08:55","slug":"early-christmas-present-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/dragonsflamedesigns.co.uk\/knit\/early-christmas-present-2\/","title":{"rendered":"An Early Christmas Present"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Seeing as the Halifax Hoodie went so well, I had a crazy idea to make K a hoodie as an early Christmas present. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.heyjunehandmade.com\/?affiliates=105\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Hey June Handmade&#8217;s Hatteras Hoodie<\/a>* is made in exactly the same way as the Halifax, so I felt reasonably confident at my ability to make it.<\/p>\n<p>I chose some blue spotty sweatshirt fabric for the main body, along with some &#8216;cops and robbers&#8217; t-shirt fabric for the hood lining. To break up the spots, I also cut the cuffs and waistband from the t-shirt fabric.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-1386\" style=\"font-size: 1rem;\" src=\"https:\/\/dragonsflamedesigns.co.uk\/knit\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/hoodie-K5-hood.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"667\" srcset=\"https:\/\/dragonsflamedesigns.co.uk\/knit\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/hoodie-K5-hood.jpg 500w, https:\/\/dragonsflamedesigns.co.uk\/knit\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/hoodie-K5-hood-225x300.jpg 225w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 500px) 100vw, 500px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The Hatteras pattern doesn&#8217;t include a drawstring around the hood, which meant I could skip hammering in any eyelets! It also doesn&#8217;t include binding on the edges of the pocket, but I added those in just to give some interest to the front panel.<\/p>\n<p>The sweatshirt fabric isn&#8217;t brushed like you would expect &#8211; it has a furry feel to it, and a definite nap. This means it should be snug and cosy to wear, but did give me some challenges when it came to sewing. I&#8217;ve sewn faux fur fabric before, but never anything with the furry side facing <em>out<\/em>. Of course that resulted in the fabric slipping mid seam, which was a nightmare when it came to attaching the hood.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-1382\" style=\"font-size: 1rem;\" src=\"https:\/\/dragonsflamedesigns.co.uk\/knit\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/hoodie-K1.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"279\" srcset=\"https:\/\/dragonsflamedesigns.co.uk\/knit\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/hoodie-K1.jpg 500w, https:\/\/dragonsflamedesigns.co.uk\/knit\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/hoodie-K1-300x167.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 500px) 100vw, 500px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>After two mis-sewn seams, and unpicking far too many stretch stitches, I was at a loss for how to resolve the problem. I<span style=\"font-size: 1rem;\">n desperation, I attached a walking foot, and reverted to a zigzag stitch instead of a stretch stitch &#8211; it was the only thing I could think of to try.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-1385\" src=\"https:\/\/dragonsflamedesigns.co.uk\/knit\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/hoodie-K4.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"375\" srcset=\"https:\/\/dragonsflamedesigns.co.uk\/knit\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/hoodie-K4.jpg 500w, https:\/\/dragonsflamedesigns.co.uk\/knit\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/hoodie-K4-300x225.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 500px) 100vw, 500px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Much to my amazement, that did the trick! The hood stayed pinned as it was meant to, and even the cuffs weren&#8217;t as terrible as I thought they could be.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-1384\" src=\"https:\/\/dragonsflamedesigns.co.uk\/knit\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/hoodie-K3.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"375\" srcset=\"https:\/\/dragonsflamedesigns.co.uk\/knit\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/hoodie-K3.jpg 500w, https:\/\/dragonsflamedesigns.co.uk\/knit\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/hoodie-K3-300x225.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 500px) 100vw, 500px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The pattern on the cuffs is upside-down&#8230;. but that&#8217;s an intentional design.
