I&#8217;m honestly not sure what fabric this actually is; my best guess is\u00a0a kind of canvas &#8211; slightly shiny and textured and reasonably thick. The fantastic pattern of silhouetted buildings would be perfect to make something for an architecture-loving friend, but I wasn&#8217;t too sure what I would be making.<\/p>\n<p>Going back through my folder of downloaded patterns, I came across the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.rileyblakedesigns.com\/blog\/2012\/02\/01\/design-team-wednesdaynotebook-folder-tutorial\/\" target=\"_blank\">Notebook Folder\u00a0Tutorial<\/a> from Riley Blake Designs. I&#8217;d made one of these previously, but struggled to get all the layers through my Mum&#8217;s sewing machine, so I wasn&#8217;t too sure how this canvas would behave!<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_382\" style=\"width: 355px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-382\" class=\"wp-image-382 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/dragonsflamedesigns.co.uk\/knit\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/05\/sky-out-done.jpg\" alt=\"Notebook Folder\" width=\"345\" height=\"500\" srcset=\"https:\/\/dragonsflamedesigns.co.uk\/knit\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/05\/sky-out-done.jpg 345w, https:\/\/dragonsflamedesigns.co.uk\/knit\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/05\/sky-out-done-207x300.jpg 207w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 345px) 100vw, 345px\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-382\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Outer cover, complete with strap and button<\/p><\/div>\n<p>The inside of each panel is a black polycotton which compliments the silhouettes and also helps balance the thickness of the fabric.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_384\" style=\"width: 329px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-384\" class=\"wp-image-384 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/dragonsflamedesigns.co.uk\/knit\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/05\/sky-out-un.jpg\" alt=\"Notebook Folder\" width=\"319\" height=\"500\" srcset=\"https:\/\/dragonsflamedesigns.co.uk\/knit\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/05\/sky-out-un.jpg 319w, https:\/\/dragonsflamedesigns.co.uk\/knit\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/05\/sky-out-un-191x300.jpg 191w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 319px) 100vw, 319px\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-384\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Front cover with strap undone<\/p><\/div>\n<p>I don&#8217;t trust my hand-sewing enough to stitch the button on by hand, so I machine stitched it on after completing the folder. There was just enough space to sew it in while holding the slanted pocket out of the way.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_379\" style=\"width: 510px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-379\" class=\"wp-image-379 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/dragonsflamedesigns.co.uk\/knit\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/05\/sky-inside.jpg\" alt=\"Notebook Folder\" width=\"500\" height=\"387\" srcset=\"https:\/\/dragonsflamedesigns.co.uk\/knit\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/05\/sky-inside.jpg 500w, https:\/\/dragonsflamedesigns.co.uk\/knit\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/05\/sky-inside-300x232.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 500px) 100vw, 500px\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-379\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Inside the folder. There&#8217;s a pen pocket on the left, and the pouch to the right is large enough to hold an extra large notebook!<\/p><\/div>\n<p>I decided to skip\u00a0the interfacing as the canvas is\u00a0sturdy enough without it. I couldn&#8217;t find any batting in my local shop, so I picked wadding instead\u00a0and quilted \u00a0it to the inside panel so it wouldn&#8217;t shift around as I turned the folder the right way around. I also cut the wadding shorter than recommended, leaving\u00a0a half inch border around, to ensure the final seams wouldn&#8217;t overlap it.<\/p>\n<p>The quilting could be a bit neater; if I made another, I might try and make\u00a0more of a feature of the quilting, picking a better pattern than a simple cross on the back.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_380\" style=\"width: 356px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-380\" class=\"wp-image-380 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/dragonsflamedesigns.co.uk\/knit\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/05\/sky-inside-cover.jpg\" alt=\"Notebook Folder\" width=\"346\" height=\"500\" srcset=\"https:\/\/dragonsflamedesigns.co.uk\/knit\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/05\/sky-inside-cover.jpg 346w, https:\/\/dragonsflamedesigns.co.uk\/knit\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/05\/sky-inside-cover-208x300.jpg 208w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 346px) 100vw, 346px\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-380\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">The inside cover &#8211; you can just about see the quilted backing behind the slanted pocket.<\/p><\/div>\n<p>I used a denim needle in my sewing machine\u00a0due to the thickness of the canvas.
