I was&nbsp;completely stuck until I came across a book on Zentangles&nbsp;&#8211; that gave me an idea&#8230;. what if I was to write out the letters, then do a Zentangle style pattern in the middle of each one?<\/p>\n<p>Some black card a white gel pen and a white pencil later, this is the end result:<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_656\" style=\"width: 510px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-656\" class=\"wp-image-656 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/dragonsflamedesigns.co.uk\/knit\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/09\/halloween-zentangle.jpg\" alt=\"Happy Halloween\" width=\"500\" height=\"206\" srcset=\"https:\/\/dragonsflamedesigns.co.uk\/knit\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/09\/halloween-zentangle.jpg 500w, https:\/\/dragonsflamedesigns.co.uk\/knit\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/09\/halloween-zentangle-300x124.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 500px) 100vw, 500px\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-656\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">The outside of the card, with a Zentangle-inspired look<\/p><\/div>\n<p>The white gel pen wasn&#8217;t as&nbsp;opaque as I&#8217;d hoped, and some of the patterns&nbsp;needed going over a few times to make them stand out, but it still has a really striking effect on the black!<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_655\" style=\"width: 510px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-655\" class=\"wp-image-655 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/dragonsflamedesigns.co.uk\/knit\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/09\/halloween-inside.jpg\" alt=\"Happy Halloween - Hobbit\" width=\"500\" height=\"205\" srcset=\"https:\/\/dragonsflamedesigns.co.uk\/knit\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/09\/halloween-inside.jpg 500w, https:\/\/dragonsflamedesigns.co.uk\/knit\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/09\/halloween-inside-300x123.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 500px) 100vw, 500px\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-655\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Inside the card &#8211; copying a Hobbit font<\/p><\/div>\n<p>But for the inside, I wanted to use an orange gel pen&#8230;. so I cut some white paper to line the card, and copied a Hobbit-themed font from my computer screen to make it look a little more unique!<\/p>\n<p>I knew I wanted to send a gift with the card, and I&#8217;d found the <a href=\"http:\/\/beezeeart.tumblr.com\/craftsy\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">bat pattern from BeeZee Art<\/a>&nbsp;a little while ago. I made the mistake of buying some&nbsp;nice thick fleece to make the bat&#8230;. and ended up having to hand crank the sewing machine, as even with a denim needle, it struggled with the thickness of the fabric layers!<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;m pleased with how the bat came out though &#8211; although the black fleece was a nightmare to work with, it gives Batty a nice plush feel, and the orange lining for his ears and wings (remnants from the polycotton&nbsp;lining of the <a href=\"https:\/\/dragonsflamedesigns.co.uk\/knit\/?p=254\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Trendy bag<\/a>&#8216;s&nbsp;second version)&nbsp;lifts the black.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-653\" src=\"https:\/\/dragonsflamedesigns.co.uk\/knit\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/09\/batty-1.jpg\" alt=\"Bat - wings open\" width=\"500\" height=\"269\" srcset=\"https:\/\/dragonsflamedesigns.co.uk\/knit\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/09\/batty-1.jpg 500w, https:\/\/dragonsflamedesigns.co.uk\/knit\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/09\/batty-1-300x161.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 500px) 100vw, 500px\" \/>&nbsp;&nbsp;<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-654\" src=\"https:\/\/dragonsflamedesigns.co.uk\/knit\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/09\/batty-2.jpg\" alt=\"Bat - folded wings\" width=\"500\" height=\"667\" srcset=\"https:\/\/dragonsflamedesigns.co.uk\/knit\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/09\/batty-2.jpg 500w, https:\/\/dragonsflamedesigns.co.uk\/knit\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/09\/batty-2-225x300.jpg 225w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 500px) 100vw, 500px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>My topstitching on the wings came out surprisingly well, even though his nose is slightly crooked!
