{"id":833,"date":"2016-04-19T10:00:34","date_gmt":"2016-04-19T09:00:34","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/dragonsflamedesigns.co.uk\/knit\/?p=833"},"modified":"2017-12-16T13:01:34","modified_gmt":"2017-12-16T12:01:34","slug":"gryffindor-sock-owl","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/dragonsflamedesigns.co.uk\/knit\/gryffindor-sock-owl\/","title":{"rendered":"Gryffindor Sock Owl"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I was browsing the\u00a0Primark website the other day, when I came across a pack of 4 pairs of Harry Potter themed socks. &#8220;Nothing special about that&#8221;, I hear you say, but I had plans for these socks&#8230;.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-820\" src=\"https:\/\/dragonsflamedesigns.co.uk\/knit\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/04\/sock1.jpg\" alt=\"Sock Owls\" width=\"100\" height=\"392\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Wouldn&#8217;t it be a neat idea to make these into <a href=\"http:\/\/www.craftpassion.com\/2014\/02\/how-to-sew-sock-owl.html\" target=\"_blank\">sock owls<\/a>? I&#8217;d already made one out of a grey sock, but while it looks cute, it&#8217;s not really all that startling.\u00a0My first challenge was the orientation of the sock &#8211;\u00a0the pattern uses the toe part of the sock as the head, but then the writing and crest would be upside-down.\u00a0Gathering the heel part of the sock, I realised I would need to add something to the head in order to cover the stitches and make it look more finished.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-822\" src=\"https:\/\/dragonsflamedesigns.co.uk\/knit\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/04\/owls-site.jpg\" alt=\"Sock Owls\" width=\"500\" height=\"474\" srcset=\"https:\/\/dragonsflamedesigns.co.uk\/knit\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/04\/owls-site.jpg 500w, https:\/\/dragonsflamedesigns.co.uk\/knit\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/04\/owls-site-300x284.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 500px) 100vw, 500px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Cue the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.craftsy.com\/pattern\/sewing\/toy\/witch-hat-plush-toy\/112852\" target=\"_blank\">Witch Hat<\/a>\u00a0free pattern from BeeZee Art on Craftsy &#8211; what better way to shout &#8220;Harry Potter&#8221; than an owl wearing a wizarding hat?<\/p>\n<p>I stitched the hat by hand, but I think it would look better on the machine, as then the brim could be totally flat on the edges.
