Amazing snail mail

I made a few gifts to send to friends in Amercia this year, and although it was a week after the last posting date for surface mail, I decided that I wouldn’t send them airmail, so surface they went…. a couple of days ago, I had a message from a friend in America, telling me how thrilled she was with her Christmas present (which arrived over 25 days early, even though I sent it late!) 😀

….if only I could get like that with my crochet, and speed up a little *laughs*

At the moment, I’m crocheting a pair of boots for a plushie bear – the seam on the foot of the plushie has split, so to save any more disasters once I’ve stitched it back up, I decided that a pair of boots would be a quirky solution 🙂 I’ve finished one, just a matching one to go (I hate crocheting pairs of items – I can never get the second one to look quite like the first!)

Bears and Squares…. well, just Bears actually

And here we have a selection of bears for the Bears and Squares knitting campaign from Simply Knitting….

Badger bear was finished quite a while ago, but I’d stored him in the hope of eventually knitting his ears…. but I think without them, he looks like a badger, so this is how he’ll stay 🙂

Sophie Bear is crocheted, complete with a crochet dress. I still need to work on getting my stitches tighter (I used the smallest hook I had), but I think she came out quite well all the same 🙂 What Sophie bear would be complete without a few friends? These are a couple of bookworms I knitted last year – they didn’t look quite as good as I thought they would though….

And because the purple bookworm wouldn’t stand up on its own, I had to get Sophie bear to hold that one as well *laughs*

And working on one of the older patterns I have for a knitted bear, the last one (who doesn’t actually have a name yet!) was knitted with two strands of wool, so he’s a nice cuddly size, with a mottled effect in his colours 😀

Another plushie bear

More from the last year – one day I’ll get my blog sorted and update it more often!

old_fashioned_bear

Old Fashioned Bear (with Amusing Cat, just for size comparison) 🙂 I’m really pleased with how he came out – he was knitted with two strands of wool to make him extra large 😀

Older knitted creations

I just realised that I’ve not updated my blog with my older knitted creations, so without further ado, here they are…. *drumroll*

bear1

The first two standing bears I ever knitted…. and as you can tell, I got in a mess with which row was a knit and which was a purl on the blue one.

Knitting and Crochet

Yet more knitting, with a bit of crochet included!

penguins
This time, I decided to have a go at crocheting an Amigurumi toy…. the first attempt, is the penguin on the right – it’s also the first time I tried using those eyes as well, and I reckon it came out pretty well 😀

The penguin on the left, was crocheted for a friend’s baby, so I left off the flippers and feet, so there’s less risk of any pieces coming loose over time 🙂

Blanket Squares

My first ever (real) blanket squares, as I don’t count the squares I made when I was learning to knit…. they didn’t even come out square *blushes*

knit-square-heart

I decided to try my hand at knitting at least a few squares for Simply Knitting’s campaign to get knitted blankets for Refuge. My first attempt for this was the knitted hearts square. The only squares I’d ever tried to knit before that were knitted from the base up, and never really came out particularly square. This one was knitted from the corner, starting with one stitch, then knitted along the diagonal, so it came out a lot better than my previous “squares”.

Having finished that one, I bought the set of patterns, and noticed a crochet square pattern lurking in there. Now the only things I’ve managed to crochet before, have been a jumper for a teddy bear, and a hairband (crochet patterns look so confusing I’ve never got further than the first line). But I decided to perservere with this one, and see how far I got.

Works in progress

….yep, I seem to have taken on a little too much in the knitting line (again). I’ve got a few projects for Christmas that I want to finish, a couple I still need to start(!), and a few other things that are sitting on the needles, that are crying out to be completed.

I’m banning myself from buying any more wool, until I’ve used some of my stash at least, unless it’s black or white wool, as I can usually make use of that. And I want to try and catch up with the “on the needles” projects before this time next year…. at least to finish one of them 😉

I decided to try knitting more the Möbius scarf that I started last year…. I’ve started the first colour change about half way through the pattern, but at over 200 stitches in each round, it seems to take forever to get one round finished. I’m determined to get this one done for Christmas though. The gilet might have to wait for Mother’s Day instead!
