A Baby Bear for T

Ok, I will admit this make was actually finished two years ago, which shows how far behind I am with updating my blog (sorry about that!).

I couldn’t resist sewing a bear for my neighbour’s baby son T, although I was a little apprehensive as I’ve never sewn anything for such a young child before and I wanted to make sure there weren’t any potential problems or eyes that could come loose.

This bear is a drastic departure from my usual bear style, but it made for an interesting sew.

I used multi-coloured fleece fabric to give an eye-catching look, with the appliqued nose cut from a plain purple section. Attaching the muzzle was a little more challenging, but I actually quite like the line of purple stitching as it gives the bear a nice quirkiness.

While the front section was cut from chevron-design fleece, the back was cut from fleece in the same colours but with a striped design. I didn’t quite have enough of either fabric to make the entire bear, but I think that using the stripes on the back makes the bear look even better!

Of course no ‘new baby’ gift would be complete without a card as well, so I did my best to draw a cute baby-bear.

I’m pleased to say that T absolutely loves his bear, and I hope they’re able to go on some amazing adventures!

I can’t remember which pattern I used to make this bear (sorry), but once I find the link, I will add it here!

Jonathan’s Wee Lap Tee

When a friend announced he was going to be a daddy, I decided it was a good reason to dig out the Patterns for Pirates Wee Lap Tee pattern to make a little t-shirt for the baby. I was organised and had the tee made well in advance, but wanted to wait for the birth announcement to know what colour to make the bear’s top on the card!

Like the previous Wee Lap Tee I made, this one is made from starry jersey. I didn’t want to go with a baby blue shade and as his parents both like shades of green, this should meet with their approval!

Unlike the previous Wee Lap Tee, I added a waistband cuff to this one – I think it makes the overall t-shirt look more professional in its finish.

All I have to hope now, is that it fits little Jonathan!

Baby Tee

I hardly ever make baby clothing, but when a neighbour was expecting I decided it was a good excuse to try out a Patterns for Pirates free pattern to make a tee.

I will admit I made several mistakes in the sewing, most of which came about because it’s a much smaller size than I’ve ever sewn before! The lap part of the tee (where the back panel laps over the front) isn’t quite sewn into the seams fully… but it’ll be perfectly wearable until the little’un grows out of it!

And of course, I had to make a card to go with it. I just hope the tee fits little J!
